About Me

Introduction

Public life, in my view, is not about position or authority, but about responsibility - the responsibility to represent people with honesty, to understand their concerns, and to work consistently so that development reaches every section of society. My journey into public life has been shaped by education, professional experience, family values, and a deep belief that progress must be inclusive, disciplined, and rooted in the realities of the ground.

I currently serve as the Member of Parliament from Jamui, Bihar, and as Chief Whip of Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) in the Lok Sabha. In these roles, my work involves parliamentary responsibilities, organisational coordination, and continuous efforts toward development-oriented initiatives for the people I represent.

My approach to public service is guided by the belief that governance must combine commitment, planning, and execution. Whether in Parliament, in organisational work, or in the constituency, my effort has always been to remain accessible to people, focused on long-term development, and consistent in fulfilling the trust placed in me.

Early Life and Family

I was born on 31 March 1976 in Bokaro Steel City, in what was then the state of Bihar. I was raised in a family where education, discipline, and a sense of responsibility towards society were always given great importance. These values shaped my upbringing and continue to guide my approach to public life.

My father, Late Ram Yash Ram, served at Bokaro Steel Plant and led a life defined by simplicity, integrity, and dedication to his work. From him, I learnt the importance of honesty, hard work, and self-respect. My mother, Dr. Jyoti Bharti, has been active in public life for several decades and has served both in the Bihar Legislative Assembly and the Bihar Legislative Council. Watching her work closely with people at the grassroots level gave me my first understanding of public service and the responsibilities that come with representing others.

My ancestral roots lie in the Bhojpur region of Bihar, and that connection to the soil and to the people of Bihar has always remained an important part of my identity. The values of humility, perseverance, and respect for community that I grew up with continue to influence my thinking and my work in public life.

Education

My early schooling began at Lions’ Club School in Bokaro Steel City, followed by Kendriya Vidyalaya in Bokaro Steel City and later Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kankarbagh, Patna. These early years exposed me to different academic environments and helped build the foundation of discipline and adaptability that shaped my personality. During my middle school years, I moved to Oak Grove School, Mussoorie, where the residential school environment played an important role in developing independence, self-discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility.

I later continued my education at Birla Public School, Pilani, an institution known for its emphasis on academic excellence, leadership, and character building. My time at Pilani further strengthened my interest in commerce, economics, and public affairs, and helped shape my outlook towards education as a tool for both personal growth and public responsibility.

I pursued my graduation at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), University of Delhi, where I completed my degree in Commerce. My years at SRCC exposed me to subjects such as economics, finance, and public policy, and it was during this period that my interest in understanding the relationship between economic systems, governance, and social development became stronger. The academic environment at the University of Delhi encouraged analytical thinking and broadened my perspective on national and global issues.

In order to gain advanced academic training in finance and management, I went on to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Strathclyde Graduate School of Business in Glasgow, United Kingdom. Studying in an international academic setting provided me with exposure to global economic systems, corporate management practices, and public policy frameworks. This experience helped me understand the importance of efficient institutions, sound financial planning, and disciplined administration in achieving long-term development.

My years of education, both in India and abroad, not only provided academic knowledge but also shaped my approach towards discipline, decision-making, and responsibility, values that continue to guide me in my professional and public life.

Professional Career Before Politics

Before entering active politics, I spent several years working in the private sector, gaining experience across banking, finance, trading, manufacturing, and infrastructure-related business activities. These years were important in shaping my understanding of how organisations function, how decisions are implemented, and how economic systems directly affect people’s lives. My professional journey exposed me to both corporate environments and field-level operations, which helped me develop a practical and disciplined approach towards work.

I worked in the banking and financial services sector, where I was involved in corporate banking, relationship management, and financial advisory roles. This experience gave me an understanding of financial systems, credit structures, risk assessment, and the role of institutions in supporting economic growth. Working with clients from different industries also helped me appreciate the challenges faced by businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals in navigating regulatory and financial processes.

After gaining experience in the financial sector, I became involved in entrepreneurial and business activities, including trading, manufacturing, and infrastructure-related projects. My work during this period included business development, project execution, coordination with different agencies, and organisational management. I was associated with ventures connected to automobile dealerships, telecom infrastructure, electrical transmission, and technology-driven projects, which required close coordination between private companies, financial institutions, and government authorities.

These professional years taught me the importance of planning, accountability, and execution. They also showed me that policies and decisions have real consequences at the ground level, especially when implementation is delayed or systems do not function efficiently. This experience later influenced the way I approach public life, with emphasis on coordination, follow-up, and ensuring that development work moves from paper to reality.

Although I remained connected to public life through my family background and social exposure, I did not enter active politics during this period. My focus remained on professional responsibilities, gaining experience, and understanding systems of administration, finance, and organisation, which later became valuable when I took on public responsibilities.

Entry into Public Life

Although I remained closely connected to public life through my family background, I did not enter active politics for many years. My mother, Dr. Jyoti Bharti, had been active in public service for decades, and after my marriage in 2005 into the family of Late Shri Ramvilas Paswan ji, I was exposed more closely to national-level political discussions and public affairs. Despite this proximity to politics, I chose to remain professionally engaged in business, finance, and organisational work, as I believed that practical experience outside politics would give me a broader understanding of society, administration, and economic systems.

My decision to enter active politics came in 2021, at a time when Lok Janshakti Party was passing through one of the most difficult phases in its history following the demise of its founder, Shri Ramvilas Paswan ji. His passing created not only an emotional loss for the party and its supporters, but also a period of political uncertainty. The party soon faced internal differences which led to a split in the organisation, and the structure that had been built over decades required rebuilding from the ground up. For many workers and supporters, it was a moment of confusion and concern about the future of the party and the political legacy associated with it.

During this period, I felt a strong sense of responsibility to step forward and contribute to the effort of reorganising the party. Having been closely associated with the family for many years, I had seen from close quarters the amount of dedication and hard work that had gone into building the organisation and maintaining its connection with people at the grassroots level. It became clear to me that this was a time when the party needed stability, coordination, and renewed organisational effort in order to regain the confidence of its workers and supporters.

My involvement began with organisational work, travelling to different districts, interacting with party workers, and participating in meetings aimed at strengthening the structure of Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) under the leadership of Shri Chirag Paswan. The focus during this period was not on electoral politics alone, but on rebuilding trust within the organisation, reconnecting with long-time supporters, and preparing the party for the future through disciplined and systematic work.

This phase of reorganisation gave me first-hand exposure to the challenges faced by political organisations at the grassroots level. Meeting workers, listening to their concerns, and understanding local issues across different regions of Bihar and other states strengthened my belief that public life must remain closely connected to the people it seeks to represent. It was during this period that my role gradually moved from supporting organisational efforts to taking on more active responsibilities within the party.

This phase marked the beginning of my active involvement in political and organisational work. My role initially focused on coordination, interaction with party workers, and participation in efforts to rebuild the organisational structure. Travelling across districts, meeting workers, and understanding local issues during this period gave me first-hand experience of the challenges faced by political organisations at the grassroots level and reinforced my belief that public life must remain connected to the people it seeks to represent.

Member of Parliament - Jamui

In 2024, I was nominated as the candidate of Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) from the Jamui (Scheduled Caste) parliamentary constituency in Bihar as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). This was my first direct electoral contest, and it came after a period of extensive organisational work within the party following the rebuilding phase that began in 2021.

The election was fought in a political environment where strengthening the organisation, maintaining the confidence of workers, and reconnecting with people at the grassroots level had become essential. The experience gained during the organisational phase, including extensive travel across districts and continuous interaction with party workers and local communities, helped in building a strong foundation for the campaign.

During the election, the focus of the campaign remained on development, infrastructure, irrigation, education, and long-pending projects in the region. Issues related to railway connectivity, water resources, rural roads, employment opportunities, and effective implementation of government schemes were repeatedly raised in public meetings and interactions with voters. The campaign also emphasised the importance of stability, organisational discipline, and continuing the development-oriented approach within the National Democratic Alliance.

The election results were declared on 4 June 2024, and I was elected to the Lok Sabha with the support and trust of the people of Jamui. This victory marked my first electoral mandate and placed upon me a significant responsibility to work for the development of the constituency and to actively participate in parliamentary responsibilities at the national level. I took oath as Member of Parliament on 24 June 2024.

Representing Jamui in Parliament is both an honour and a duty. My work as Member of Parliament has focused on development-oriented issues that directly affect the lives of people in the constituency. These include irrigation and water resource projects, railway connectivity, road infrastructure, education, healthcare facilities, and effective implementation of government welfare schemes. A substantial part of my responsibilities involves regular follow-up on long-pending projects, coordination with central ministries and state authorities, and review of development work at the district level to ensure that approved projects are implemented in a timely manner.

Particular emphasis has been placed on strengthening irrigation infrastructure, improving rural connectivity, expanding educational institutions, and upgrading healthcare facilities in the region. Work related to reservoir projects, railway lines, road overbridges, and public infrastructure requires continuous interaction with different departments and agencies, and my effort has been to ensure that these projects move forward in a systematic and accountable manner.

Along with my responsibilities in the constituency, I also serve as Chief Whip of Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) in the Lok Sabha. In this role, I am responsible for coordinating the party’s parliamentary work, ensuring participation of members during debates and voting, and maintaining communication between the party leadership and Members of Parliament. The position also involves working closely with alliance partners within the National Democratic Alliance, particularly in matters related to parliamentary strategy and legislative coordination.

My work in Parliament includes participation in debates, raising issues related to development and public welfare, and contributing to committee discussions. I have been associated with parliamentary committees dealing with finance, social justice, and skill development, which has provided me the opportunity to take part in policy discussions at the national level.

For me, the role of Member of Parliament is not limited to participation in Parliament alone. It also involves remaining accessible to people, understanding their concerns, and ensuring that development work reaches the ground. My effort has been to maintain a balance between parliamentary responsibilities, organisational work, and continuous engagement with the people of the constituency.

Organisation Building and
Nav-Sankalp Mahasabha

Since entering active politics, my primary focus has been on organisation building, coordination, and strengthening the party at the grassroots level. The period following the reorganisation of the party required sustained effort to reconnect with workers, rebuild confidence, and restore the organisational structure across districts. This phase involved continuous travel, regular meetings with party workers, and close interaction with local leadership in different parts of Bihar and other states.

One of the most important initiatives during this period was the Nav-Sankalp Mahasabha, a statewide outreach programme conducted across Bihar. The programme was designed not only as a political campaign, but as a systematic effort to rebuild the organisation from the ground up. It involved travelling across multiple districts, holding large public meetings, interacting with workers at booth, block, and district levels, and listening directly to the concerns of people.

The Nav-Sankalp Mahasabha was organised in several regions of the state, where workers, supporters, and local leaders came together to reaffirm their commitment to the party and its principles. These meetings provided an opportunity to review the organisational structure, strengthen communication within the party, and prepare the organisation for future political challenges. The programme also helped in restoring confidence among workers who had stood with the party during a difficult phase.

This period of extensive outreach played an important role in consolidating the party’s presence across Bihar and strengthening its organisational base. The renewed confidence and unity among workers contributed to the party’s ability to participate effectively in alliance discussions and electoral preparation in the years that followed. The experience reinforced my belief that political work must remain closely connected to the ground, and that a strong organisation built on trust and discipline is the foundation of public life.

Approach to Politics and Public Service

My approach to public life has been shaped both by my professional background and by my exposure to public service through family and political experience. Having spent several years working in the private sector before entering politics, I developed a strong belief in the importance of planning, accountability, and execution. This experience has influenced the way I look at governance, where intentions alone are not enough and real progress depends on disciplined implementation and effective coordination.

I believe that development must be balanced and inclusive. Economic growth, infrastructure expansion, and opportunities for enterprise are essential for long-term progress, but they must go hand in hand with social justice and equal access to opportunity. A society can move forward only when development reaches every section, and when policies are designed not only for growth, but also for fairness and stability.

My outlook towards politics is centred and practical. I believe that strong institutions, transparent systems, and responsible administration are the foundation of good governance. In my work, whether in Parliament, in organisational responsibilities, or in the constituency, I have tried to focus on issues that directly affect people’s lives - such as irrigation, roads, railway connectivity, education, healthcare, and employment. For me, political work is meaningful only when it results in visible improvement on the ground.

I also believe that organisation and discipline are essential in public life. Political strength does not come only from speeches or elections, but from continuous work, coordination, and the ability to stay connected with people at every level. My effort has always been to remain accessible, to listen carefully, and to approach problems with patience and a long-term perspective.

Public life is a responsibility that demands consistency, humility, and the willingness to keep learning. My commitment is to continue working with sincerity, to remain grounded, and to ensure that the trust placed in me by the people is honoured through steady effort and honest service.

Personal Interests

Outside public life, I value time spent in activities that help me remain balanced and grounded. I enjoy travelling, long-distance motorcycle riding, and reading, all of which give me an opportunity to step away from routine and reflect with a clearer mind. Travel has always been a way for me to understand different people, cultures, and ways of life, and it often provides perspective that is useful in public service. Reading, particularly on subjects related to history, economics, and public policy, helps me stay informed and continue learning beyond formal education.

Motorcycle riding has been a long-standing personal interest, one that I associate with discipline, endurance, and the ability to stay focused. In the middle of a demanding public schedule, such activities provide the space to think, reflect, and return with renewed energy.

Family remains an important source of strength in my life. The values of simplicity, hard work, and responsibility that I learnt at home continue to guide my decisions and my approach to public life. No matter how demanding public responsibilities become, staying connected to family and to the principles I grew up with helps me remain grounded and focused on what truly matters.

Looking Ahead

Public life is a long journey, and every step brings with it both challenges and responsibilities. The trust that people place in their representative is not something that can be taken lightly, and I believe it must be honoured through consistent work, honesty in intent, and commitment in action. My effort has always been to remain grounded, to stay connected with people, and to approach every responsibility with sincerity and discipline.

I believe that real progress does not come from promises alone, but from steady effort, careful planning, and the patience to see work through to completion. Development is meaningful only when it reaches the ground, improves lives, and creates opportunities for the next generation. Whether in Parliament, in organisational work, or in the constituency, my focus remains on ensuring that decisions lead to visible results and long-term benefit for society.

The journey ahead requires dedication, teamwork, and a clear sense of purpose. My commitment is to continue working with the same resolve, to strengthen the trust that people have placed in me, and to contribute in every possible way towards building a society that is more developed, more just, and more confident about its future.
